Marketing & Outreach Specialist
New Jersey Citizen Action, the state's largest citizen watchdog coalition, with 60,000 family members and 100 affiliate organizations, is accepting applications for Coordinator of Marketing & Outreach for our Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Initiative Program.

We are seeking a Coordinator of Marketing & Outreach for our Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Initiative a project that benefits low and moderate-income individuals. Working under the EITC Program Coordinator, the Marketing & Outreach Coordinator will research, plan, and execute strategies that convey the positive impact of our program reaching out to targeted constituencies to educate consumers about the federal and state Earned Income Tax Credit programs and eligibility. The Marketing & Outreach Specialist will seize opportunities to partner with groups, establish mass media publicity to advertise the EITC and the free filing opportunities available at NJCA's VITA site, its location and its hours. Based in our Newark office, the EITC Marketing & Outreach Specialist will concentrate these efforts in New Jersey's low and moderate-income communities, providing information and resources to help consumers make informed choices regarding basic financial topics.![]()
Examples of Work
- Work with the EITC Program Coordinator and project partners and stakeholders to determine strategies and key messages to be included in the EITC campaign.
- Elaborate reporting to our funders.
- Update NJCA & NJCAEF website
- Update all marketing materials (brochures, flyers, posters, tri-fold).
- Responsible for EITC newsletter article.
- Develop and implement a marketing plan to publicize the VITA site location, hours of operation, and scope of services.
- Coordinate theme outreach such as Valentine's Day & St. Patty's Day outreach.
- Make contact with individuals, organizations, & community groups to schedule presentations to promote free tax preparation services on a regular basis.
- Draft press releases and generate press throughout the filling season.
- Maintain a record of press clips.
- Create visual and printed testimonies about the positive experience of some of our clients.
- Update all marketing materials for the 2008 tax season.
- Update EITC information featured on NJCA website as it relates to current tax filing season.
- Supervise outreach helpers
- Participate in the Newark Asset Building Coalition VITA site marketing sub-committee meetings.
- Inform consumers of the work of NJCA on other issues of consumers and rights.
- Participated in NJCA organizational activities
- Adhere to Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, and other pertinent Civil Rights statues by not denying service to anyone, based upon race, color, sex, age, national origin or disability.
Citizen Action engages in direct action organizing activities around issues and elections. All NJCA staff may be asked to participate in rallies, lobby days, demonstration, voter registration and education activities, get out the vote activities, and other work related direct action organizing and non partisan political activities that further NJCA's goals and mission, provided such activities are not prohibited due to specific state or federal funding.

- Ability to become proficient in the EITC Project, financial literacy and related technology advancements, updates, and issues.
- Knowledgeable of the Newark neighborhoods a plus.

Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (life experience may be substituted for education on a year-by-year basis).
- Vehicle and valid New Jersey license and insurance required.
- Fluency in Spanish or other non-English language(s) is a plus.
- Experience working with low-moderate income communities.
