Part-Time Regional Organizer / Activist (North Jersey)
New Jersey Citizen Action, the state's largest citizen watchdog coalition, with 60,000 family members and 100 affiliate organizations, is accepting applications for our organizing staff. NJCA has an immediate opening for a part-time (20 hours per week), North Jersey Organizer. Staff in this position will concentrate their work on Citizen Action's Community Reinvestment Campaigns.
Examples of Work
- Help to develop and negotiate community reinvestment agreements with large and small banks in New Jersey. Analyze and compare agreements and lending data with current local and national trends in lending to low and moderate income borrowers.
- Directly assist Executive Director in meetings with bank representatives, legislators and state officials on banking issues.
- Maintain contact with national organizations on banking issues.
- Coordinate press conferences and perform statewide media campaigns on fair banking issues.
Arrange trainings throughout the state on Predatory Lending for HUD-certified loan counselors. banking and lending.
Qualifications Include
- Minimum of two years' experience in community, student, labor, tenant, church, and/or political organizing.
- Excellent writing, computer, and telephone skills.
- Car, license and insurance required.
- Citizen Action has offices in Newark, Hackensack, Highland Park and Camden. This position is based in our Newark office.
Compensation
Competitive salary, plus pro-rated holiday, sick and vacation time.
