Voter Registration Campaign Coordinator
New Jersey Citizen Action is seeking a temporary, full-time Voter Registration Campaign Coordinator to lead an aggressive statewide nonpartisan voter registration program.
NJCA is the state's largest citizen watchdog coalition representing 60,000 family members and over 100 labor, tenant, senior, environmental, fair housing, civil rights, women's, neighborhood and faith-based organizations. Our mission is to protect and expand the rights of individuals and families, and to ensure that government officials respond to the needs of people rather than the interests of those with money and power.
The Voter Registration Campaign Coordinator reports directly to NJCA's Legislative/Political Director and is responsible for implementing and overseeing a voter registration program that seeks to register 12,000 NJ voters between now and October 6, 2008. In addition, the Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, hiring, training and supervising a crew of voter registration canvassers. The Coordinator is responsible for all reporting, record keeping, reporting and the day-to-day management of the voter registration campaign.![]()
Examples of Work
- Working with NJCA's Legislative/Political Director to develop and implement
voter registration campaign.
- Developing scripts and other voter engagement materials.
- Manage site and door-to-door neighborhood drives.
- Hire, train and supervise canvass staff.
- Complete weekly reports.
- Conduct quality control surveys.
- Attend trainings, participate in weekly conference calls with national affiliate,
USAction.
- Coordinator is required to canvass two to three times per week, or as needed,
to train staff and register voters.
- Supervise all administrative functions related to registration work and general
office management.

We are Seeking Candidates for the Position Who Have:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, especially public speaking.
- Ability to be self-directed, develop and maintain priorities and conduct multiple tasks in a given timeframe.
- Voter Registration Campaign and/or other electoral campaign experience.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Supervisory experience and strong interpersonal skills including excellent relationship building skills.
- The ability to complete assignments in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of and experience with working with voter files.
- The ability to work flexible hours.
- Strong computer skills including word processing, Excel and Access.

Required Education and Experience
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. (Experience may be substituted for education on a year-by-year basis.)
- Minimum of two years organizing experience in community, labor, church or student organization, at least one year of which must include responsibility for a campaign.
- Demonstrated skill in political campaigns, including direct voter contact programs and political fundraising.
- Campaign Coordinator must have his or her own car, valid driver's license and insurance.
