New Jersey Citizen Action vows to fight on for a Care Economy and Paid Leave for all in wake of 2024 election

NEWARK--November 7, 2024---In the wake of the 2024 presidential election, which will result in second Trump presidency, New Jersey Citizen Action (NJCA) vowed to fight on for priorities to support working families, people of color, immigrants, and our nation's most vulnerable populations. These priorities include affordable healthcare, affordable housing, and investments in our care economy.

Care economy policies include robust national paid family leave, affordable childcare, and support for our aging population, all of which provide critical support to help the pocket-books and need for care of voters across the Garden State.  On the contrary, the Trump agenda normalizes bigotry, sexism, and will likely include policies that will prove destructive to working families and the need to invest in the care economy infrastructure.

“This election's results won't deter us from continuing our efforts on national paid leave and affordable childcare that working families need," said NJCA Workplace Justice Program Director Yarrow Willman-Cole.  "We will fight back against policies that disrupt any family's economic stability during critical life events such as welcoming a new child into your home, coping with serious illness, care for aging loved ones and finding affordable childcare so that families can continue to earn a living. We will continue to champion policies that reduce the ever-increasing burdens on primary caregivers and care workers, particularly women of color."
