NEWARK: In a press statement today, New Jersey Citizen Action’s Executive Director, Dena Mottola Jaborska applauded New Jersey State Assembly for their swift condemnation of the budget resolution passed by Republican Representatives that would cut $1.5 trillion from the federal budget and gut critical programs like Medicaid, SNAP and others.
“We urge the US Senate to follow their example and reject this inhumane resolution, which asks millions of most vulnerable residents to forgo access to essential safety-net services so the very wealthy and our biggest corporations can enjoy trillions more in tax breaks.
This is a $5 billion alarm fire for New Jersey. Nearly 2 million New Jerseyans depend on Medicaid for healthcare, including 1 in 3 of our children and 4 in 7 of our nursing home residents. Another 830,000 of our residents rely on SNAP for food assistance. Catastrophic cuts to these and other programs would endanger funding for hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, food banks, and other services. This makes life even harder for millions of New Jerseyans already struggling to pay for essentials like groceries, rent, utilities, and medical bills.
New Jerseyans did not vote to inflict suffering on our families, neighbors, and communities. We urge our elected leaders at every level to follow our Assembly's example and stand up against the Republican budget resolution.”
