NEWARK: Following the results of the gubernatorial election results, New Jersey Citizen Action (NJCA) Executive Director, Dena Mottola Jaborska, issued the following statement:
“We extend our deepest thanks to Mayor Ras Baraka for running a bold, visionary, and deeply resonant campaign for governor. From day one, this was more than just a political campaign: it was a movement. A movement rooted in justice, equity, and a real commitment to the needs of working-class communities, especially Black and brown New Jerseyans who have long been excluded from power.
Mayor Baraka’s platform reflected the core values that NJCA has fought for over decades: economic justice for working- and middle-class families, a government that listens and responds to all its people, and the urgent need to stop Trump and the MAGA movement from dismantling our democratic institutions.
We are proud to have stood alongside him in this historic campaign. His was an unapologetically progressive, inclusive, and working-class-centered run, unprecedented in its ability to bring together a multiracial coalition united by a shared vision for justice and fairness. The campaign he built is not going away. It is transformative and it represents a powerful and growing voting bloc that is ready to reimagine a democracy that finally works for all of us.
We congratulate Congresswoman Mikie Sherill on her victory and urge her to take seriously the issues and concerns that inspired so many to support Ras Baraka. We look forward to working with the new administration to advance policies that uplift working families, expand equity, and strengthen our democracy.
We also thank all the candidates who made this post-county line race a robust and inspiring exercise in democracy. New Jersey is stronger for it.
We are not giving up on the vision this campaign advanced and we urge all who believed in it to stay involved.”
