New Jersey businesses can't profit from credit card surcharges, under a new law signed by Gov. Phil Murphy Friday.
The law, which goes into effect immediately, also requires information about the charges to be posted.
“Unfair credit card fees add to the stresses that New Jersey families face as they struggle to make ends meet,” Beverly Brown Ruggia, New Jersey Citizen Action Financial Justice Program Director said in a statement. “New Jersey Citizen Action applauds the bill sponsors and Governor Murphy for taking action to protect New Jersey consumers who are inundated with junk fees attached to everyday financial transactions and purchases.”
