The three networks operating hospitals in Monmouth and Ocean counties awarded their chief executives nearly $15.2 million in bonuses in 2024, up nearly 75% from the previous year, data shows, as employers and consumers were faced with the highest increases in health insurance premiums in more than a decade.
The combined bonuses at Hackensack Meridian Health, RWJBarnabas Health and Atlantic Health flowed in as their nine Shore-area hospitals saw sharp gains in revenue and profits, helping executives hit performance goals and adding to their seven-figure base salaries.
Consumer and labor advocates called the compensation packages egregious for nonprofit organizations, particularly as consumers increasingly struggle to afford health insurance and their medical bills.
