NJCA Executive Director Dena Mottola Jaborska released the following statement on the passing of Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver:
“Today New Jersey lost a longtime champion for our working poor, people of color, women, and our must vulnerable residents. During a lifetime of service Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver fought tirelessly on issues such as earned sick days, affordable housing, and consumer protection, and signed the New Jersey’s landmark Equal Pay Act and Diane B. Allen Act into law. She touched and improved the lives of countless New Jerseyans, both as an elected leader and a leader of nonprofits, and was the first woman of color to hold statewide elected office.
We at New Jersey Citizen Action are forever grateful for the grit, determination and leadership she provided on so many issues critical to our state’s working families, and will deeply miss working with our ever-dependable ally and friend. May she rest in power.”
