Gov. Mikie Sherrill reached a new milestone at the start of last week.
It's now been six months since the former congresswoman assumed office as Jersey's governor, taking over for fellow Democrat Phil Murphy. She promised to make life more affordable, buck the status quo in Trenton, and be a check against President Donald Trump after her landslide victory in the blue state.
A lot has happened since she got good grades in her first two public opinion polls four months ago: fights with Trump's administration over immigration, drama at Delaney Hall, the frenzy of the World Cup, the enactment of (and debate over) her first state budget, and now the national spotlight on her announcement that noncitizens were improperly added to Jersey's voter rolls a few years ago.
