NEWARK, NJ: Following the reopening of the federal government after a historic period of shutdown, New Jersey Citizen Action Director of Advocacy and Policy, Maura Collinsgru, issued the following statement:
“We thank all the Democrats who stood strong to protect healthcare for everyone. While we are relieved the government has reopened, this is in no way a victory for the American people. Health insurance costs may now be more than twice as high for millions of people across the country. President Trump and his allies promised to make life more affordable, yet their actions have only driven up costs and stripped away critical healthcare protections.
As Congress turns to the next steps, we ask them to fully fund healthcare and restore the ACA premium tax credits. New Jerseyans will be watching how our representatives, especially Congressmen Tom Kean Jr., Chris Smith, and Jeff Van Drew, will vote on upcoming healthcare measures. Voters will remember the decisions made.”
